Every Morning

Every morning I awaken,

you in my heart and mind.

Each moment of every single day,

you're in my thoughts, I find.

Throughout the busy evening hours,

you're there to keep me strong.

A presence without which I'd fail;

a soul mate when nights are long.

At midnight, when the stars shine down

you sing to me on the wind.

Each gentle, warmly blowing breeze

a promise that you send.

In deepest night, you hold me close

even though you're far away

keep me safe from darkest thoughts

until the break of day.

Soul Fit

 

At each and every dawn

I rise and don your essence.

Hugging me 

with the warmth of a winter coat

-a perfectly-sized hand over my heart-

it protects me

from freezing realities,

from harsh, abrasive egos

whose only aim is destruction

of others' souls.

 

Homeless

 

Day by day 

their pitying stares,

disdainful glares

and aloof avoidance

tear away

another piece 

of his skeletal soul-

withering,

wasting away

in the concrete desert

he once thought of as home.

They throw food 

and coins

his way,

yet none offer

what he craves most-

a warm smile

a bit of conversation

a hug-

nourishment for the soul.

The Soulless Man

You hear, but don't listen

     no music in your ears

You see only darkness

     your eyes without tears

You sense no fine fragrance

     smell no pleasing scent

No taste on your lips

     no smile of content

You touch without feeling

     with no soft caress

The man with no soul

     can know nothing less.
