Invasion
I tried in vain to shut out life
to keep it from my door.
Yet in it came, with all its strife,
to complicate things more.
Uninvited causes, uninvited sounds,
uninvited people
crossed my silent bounds.
All attempts to scorn them
proved to no avail.
Once alone in quiet solitude,
now cacophony prevailed.
To my awe and consternation,
though uneasiness was rife,
I came to reconcile myself
to this thing called life.

I just love constructive criticism. Unfortunately, you haven't offered me any here.
In regards to 'cacophony', it was you who misspelled. Check your dictionary before you correct others.
Thanks for stopping by.
I think anonymous was right, you did spell it wrong, look it up.
Already did. At dictionary.com. If they're wrong, I'm wrong.
Eileen, this is great - screw these trolls who came here with nothing better to do - they should look up "life" and then get one.
I'm currently working on poem #2 (I know it's late)
over at notwithoutpoetry.
Also, I love rhyming poetry, it's a shame it's not being used more. When I finish mine, I hope it rhymes :)

Eileen, I really enjoyed the poem. I have an ambivalent relationship to verse, but you used it nicely here.
Anonymous - do go and find something useful to do, please.
Thanks Nikki. I appreciate the encouragement.
